Frankfort Summary

Frankfort is a city located in Benzie County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,971 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Benzie County. The city is located within Frankfort Township.

History

The area that is now Frankfort was first settled in 1855 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The settlement was originally called "Franklin" after Benjamin Franklin, but the name was changed to Frankfort in 1858. The city was incorporated in 1871.

Frankfort is located at 44°45′N 86°10′W (44.75, -86.17). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.
