Tioga Summary

Tioga is a small town located in Grayson County, Texas, United States. It is situated about 15 miles north of Sherman and about 60 miles north of Dallas. The population of Tioga was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Tioga was founded in 1873 by a group of settlers from Illinois. The town was named after the Tioga River in Pennsylvania. The first post office was established in 1876. The town was incorporated in 1882.
In the early 1900s, the town was a thriving agricultural center. Cotton, corn, and wheat were the main crops grown in the area. The town also had a number of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.

Geography

Tioga is located at 33°45'25" North, 96°37'17" West (33.756944, -96.621389). It is situated in the eastern part of Grayson County, about 15 miles north of Sherman and about 60 miles north of Dallas.
The town is situated on the banks of the Tioga River, which flows through the town. The terrain is mostly flat with some rolling hills. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot summers and mild winters.
