Stinnett is a small town located in Hutchinson County, Texas. It is situated in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 25 miles northwest of Borger and 25 miles east of Dumas. The town was founded in 1912 and named after its first postmaster, William Stinnett. As of the 2010 census, the population of Stinnett was 1,337.

Stinnett is located at 35°59'25"N, 101°30'45"W (35.990278, -101.5125). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Stinnett is largely based on agriculture and oil production. The town is home to several oil and gas companies, including XTO Energy, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips. The town also has a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,337 people, 486 households, and 339 families residing in Stinnett. The population density was 1,097.5 people per square mile (422.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 81.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.8% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 14.7% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 28.2% of the population.
There were 486 households, out of which 33.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.19.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
