Pattison Summary

Pattison is a small town located in Waller County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area.

History

Pattison was founded in 1881 by William Pattison, a former Confederate soldier. The town was named after him. The first post office was established in 1882. The town was incorporated in 1891.

Geography

Pattison is located at 29°59'25" North, 95°59'45" West (29.9903, -95.9958). It is situated at the intersection of FM 359 and FM 1458, about 25 miles northwest of Houston.

Economy

The economy of Pattison is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms and ranches, as well as a few small businesses.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,093 people, 393 households, and 287 families residing in the town. The population density was 908.3 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the town was 79.2% White, 15.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 3.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
There were 393 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.25.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,845.
