Nixon Summary

Nixon is a small city located in Gonzales County, Texas, United States. It is situated along the San Marcos River, approximately 40 miles east of San Antonio. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census.

History

Nixon was founded in 1876 by German immigrants who had settled in the area. The town was named after John Nixon, a local rancher and businessman. The town was incorporated in 1891 and has since grown to become a thriving community.

Geography

Nixon is located at 29°25'25" North, 97°37'45" West (29.423, -97.629). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of it land.

Economy

Nixon is a small rural community with a strong agricultural base. The town is home to several large farms and ranches, as well as a number of small businesses. The town is also home to a number of manufacturing and industrial companies, including a large oil refinery.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 2,811 people, 1,072 households, and 745 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,279.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 17.3% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 44.2% of the population.
