Newcastle Summary

Newcastle is a small town located in Young County, Texas, United States. It is situated in the north-central part of the state, approximately 70 miles northwest of Fort Worth. The town was founded in 1882 and has a population of approximately 1,000 people.

History

The area that is now Newcastle was first settled in the late 1870s by ranchers and farmers. The town was officially established in 1882 and was named after Newcastle, England. The town was originally located on the banks of the Brazos River, but was moved to its current location in 1884 due to flooding.
In the early 1900s, Newcastle was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton gins, a flour mill, and a cottonseed oil mill. The town also had a hotel, a bank, and several stores.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline due to the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. Many of the businesses in town closed and the population decreased.
In the 1950s, the town began to experience a resurgence. The town was home to several oil and gas companies, and the population began to increase.
