Knippa Summary

Knippa, Texas is a small unincorporated community located in Uvalde County, Texas. It is situated along the banks of the Nueces River, approximately 20 miles south of Uvalde, the county seat. The population of Knippa was estimated to be around 200 people in 2020.

History

Knippa was founded in 1883 by German immigrants who had settled in the area. The town was named after a local rancher, John Knippa, who owned a large ranch in the area. The town was originally a farming and ranching community, but in the early 1900s, the discovery of oil in the area led to an economic boom. The town quickly grew and by the 1920s, it had become a thriving community with a population of over 1,000 people.
