Gruver Summary

Gruver is a small town located in Hansford County, Texas, United States. It is situated in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 25 miles east of the Oklahoma border. The population of Gruver was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Gruver was founded in 1887 by the Santa Fe Railroad. The town was named after a railroad official, J.W. Gruver. The first post office was established in 1888.
Gruver was a farming and ranching community until the discovery of oil in the area in the 1920s. This led to a population boom and the town grew rapidly. By the 1940s, Gruver had become a major oil-producing center.

Geography

Gruver is located at 35°51'25" North, 101°25'45" West (35.856944, -101.429167). It is situated in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 25 miles east of the Oklahoma border.
The town is located in the High Plains region of Texas, and is surrounded by flat, open terrain. The climate is semi-arid, with hot summers and cold winters.

Economy

Gruver's economy is largely based on agriculture and oil production. The town is home to several large farms and ranches, as well as several oil and gas companies.

The town also has a small retail sector with several stores and restaurants
