Graford Summary

Graford, Texas is a small town located in Palo Pinto County, Texas. It is situated on the banks of the Brazos River, about 25 miles northwest of Mineral Wells. The town was founded in 1876 and was originally known as “Graford Station”. The name was changed to Graford in 1882.

Geography

Graford is located at 32°51'25" North, 98°17'45" West (32.857, -98.296). It is situated on the banks of the Brazos River, about 25 miles northwest of Mineral Wells. The town has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 155 families residing in the town. The population density was 790.2 people per square mile (305.7/km²). There were 233 housing units at an average density of 337.2 per square mile (130.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 94.20% White, 0.37% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 3.48% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.45% of the population.
There were 212 households out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.4% were non-families. 24.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the town, the population was spread out with 27.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
