Freer, Texas is a small town located in Duval County, Texas. It is situated about 70 miles south of Corpus Christi and about 30 miles north of Laredo. The population of Freer was 2,817 in the 2010 census.

History

Freer was founded in 1906 by the Freer Land and Cattle Company. The company was owned by a group of investors from San Antonio, Texas. The town was named after one of the investors, John Freer. The town was originally a ranching and farming community. In the early 1900s, the town began to grow as the railroad was built through the area. The railroad brought new businesses and people to the area.
In the 1920s, oil was discovered in the area and the town began to boom. The oil industry brought new jobs and money to the area. The town grew rapidly and by the 1940s, Freer had become a major oil center. The town had a population of over 5,000 people.
In the 1950s, the oil industry began to decline and the town's population began to decline as well. The town's population dropped to around 2,000 people by the 1970s. In the 1980s, the town began to experience a resurgence as new businesses moved into the area. The town's population has been steadily increasing since then.
