Denver City Summary
Denver City is a city located in Yoakum County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,479 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Yoakum County.
History
Denver City was founded in 1909 by the Denver City Townsite Company. The company was formed by a group of investors from Denver, Colorado, who wanted to capitalize on the oil boom in the area. The town was named after the investors' hometown. The first post office opened in 1909.
The town quickly grew as the oil industry flourished. By the 1920s, Denver City had become a major oil center, with several oil companies operating in the area. The town was incorporated in 1927.

Denver City is located at 33°14'25" North, 102°45'17" West (33.240278, -102.754722). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.

The racial makeup of the city was 73.45% White, 4.45% African American, 0.64% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 19.45% from other races, and 1.83% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 37.45% of the population.
There were 1,717 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 29.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
