History
Aransas Pass was founded in 1883 by the Aransas Pass Townsite and Improvement Company. The company was formed by a group of investors from San Antonio, Texas, who purchased the land from the State of Texas. The town was named after the Aransas Pass, a natural channel that connects Aransas Bay with the Gulf of Mexico. The pass was used by Spanish explorers in the 16th century and was later used by the Texas Navy during the Texas Revolution.
The town was incorporated in 1885 and quickly became a major port for the area. The port was used to ship cotton, lumber, and other goods to and from the area. The town also became a popular tourist destination, with many people coming to fish and hunt in the area.

There were 3,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 15.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
