History
Smock was founded in 1872 by John Smock, a local coal miner. The town was originally known as Smockville, but the name was changed to Smock in 1876. The town was incorporated as a borough in 1891.
Smock was a coal mining town for many years, and the coal industry was the main source of employment for the town's residents. The town was also home to several other industries, including a brickyard, a sawmill, and a tannery.

Smock is located at 39°56'45"N 79°45'45"W (39.94583, -79.76250). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
