Rebersburg Summary

Rebersburg is a small borough located in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 517 at the 2010 census.

History

Rebersburg was founded in 1817 by John Reber, a German immigrant who had settled in the area in 1790. The town was originally known as Reber's Mill, and was later changed to Rebersburg. The town was incorporated in 1876.

Geography

Rebersburg is located at 40°48'17" North, 77°25'45" West (40.804722, -77.429167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Rebersburg is a small rural community with a limited economy. The main industries in the area are agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several small businesses, including a general store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few other small shops.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 517 people, 206 households, and 145 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,717.2 people per square mile (662.2/km2). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 717.2 per square mile (276.3/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.84% White, 0.19% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.19% Asian, and 0.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.58% of the population.
