Parker Summary

Parker, Pennsylvania is a borough located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It is situated along the Allegheny River, approximately 20 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The population of Parker was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Parker was founded in 1854 by William Parker, a local landowner. The town was originally known as Parker's Landing, and was a popular stop for steamboats traveling up and down the Allegheny River. In 1868, the town was incorporated as a borough.
In the late 19th century, Parker was a thriving industrial center. The town was home to several factories, including a glassworks, a brickyard, and a sawmill. The town also had a number of stores and businesses, including a hotel, a bank, and a post office.
In the early 20th century, Parker began to decline as the local industries moved away. The town's population decreased, and many of the businesses closed. In the 1950s, the town was revitalized with the construction of a new bridge across the Allegheny River. The bridge allowed for easier access to Pittsburgh, and the town began to attract new businesses and residents.

Geography

Parker is located in western Allegheny County, along the Allegheny River. The borough is bordered to the north by the borough of Tarentum, to the east by the borough of East Deer, to the south by the borough of Brackenridge, and to the west by the borough of Harrison.
The terrain of Parker is mostly flat, with some rolling hills. The borough is located in the Allegheny Plateau region of Pennsylvania. The climate is humid continental, with cold winters and hot, humid summers.

Economy
