Paradise Summary
Paradise, Pennsylvania is a small borough located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southeastern corner of the county, approximately 20 miles east of the city of Lancaster. The borough is bordered by East Lampeter Township to the north, West Lampeter Township to the east, and Leacock Township to the south and west. The population of Paradise was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
The area that is now Paradise was first settled in the early 1700s by German immigrants. The first settlers were members of the Mennonite Church, and the area was known as Mennonite Paradise. The name was changed to Paradise in 1815 when the post office was established.
The borough was incorporated in 1845. At the time, the main industry was farming, and the town was known for its production of wheat, corn, and other grains. In the late 1800s, the town began to grow as a center for the production of furniture and other wood products.
Geography
Paradise is located at 40°7'17" North, 76°14'45" West (40.1214, -76.2458). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $20,845. About 4.2% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
