Martinsburg Borough is located at 40°14'N 78°25'W (40.23, -78.41). It is situated in the Appalachian Mountains and is part of the Altoona-Johnstown Metropolitan Statistical Area. The borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land. The borough is bordered by the townships of East Providence, West Providence, and Woodbury.

History

Martinsburg Borough was founded in 1817 by John Martin, a Revolutionary War veteran. The borough was originally known as Martin's Town, but the name was changed to Martinsburg in 1820. The borough was incorporated in 1845.
In the late 19th century, Martinsburg was a major center for the production of iron and steel. The borough was home to several iron and steel mills, including the Martinsburg Iron Works, which was founded in 1871. The iron works was the largest employer in the borough and employed over 1,000 people at its peak.
