History

Hyde was founded in 1872 by William Hyde, a lumberman from New York. He purchased a large tract of land in the area and began to develop it into a town. The town was named after him and was incorporated in 1876.
Hyde was a thriving lumber town in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town was home to several sawmills and lumber companies, as well as a number of other businesses. The lumber industry was the main source of employment for the town’s residents.

Geography

Hyde is located in Clearfield County in the state of Pennsylvania. It is situated in the Allegheny Mountains and is surrounded by forests and rolling hills. The town is located at an elevation of 1,845 feet above sea level.
The town is located along the West Branch Susquehanna River and is bordered by the towns of Clearfield, Curwensville, and Karthaus. The nearest major city is DuBois, which is located about 25 miles to the east.
