History
Gouldsboro was founded in 1820 by William Gould, a Revolutionary War veteran. The town was originally known as Gouldsborough, but the name was changed to Gouldsboro in 1845. The town was incorporated in 1851.
Gouldsboro was a popular summer resort destination in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town was home to several large hotels, including the Gouldsboro Hotel, which was built in 1875 and was the largest hotel in the area. The hotel was destroyed by fire in 1915.
