The borough is bordered by Lower Chanceford Township to the north, Peach Bottom Township to the east, and Peach Bottom Township and Lower Chanceford Township to the south. The population of Delta was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now the Borough of Delta was first settled in the late 1700s by German immigrants. The town was originally known as "Dillersville" after the Diller family, who were among the first settlers. The town was renamed "Delta" in 1845, after the Greek letter Delta, which is the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet. The name was chosen to reflect the town's location at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Conewago Rivers.
The town was incorporated as a borough in 1854. In the late 1800s, the town was a major center for the production of cigars. The cigar industry was the primary source of employment for the town's residents until the early 1900s, when the industry began to decline.

Geography

Delta is located at 39°45'45" North, 76°25'45" West (39.7625, -76.4292). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
The borough is located at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Conewago Rivers. The Susquehanna River forms the northern boundary of the borough, while the Conewago River forms the eastern boundary.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 30.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.

The per capita income for the borough was $17,945.
