Woodland Summary

Woodland, Michigan is a small village located in the southwestern corner of Cass County, Michigan. It is situated on the banks of the St. Joseph River, and is surrounded by the townships of Calvin, Howard, and Porter. The village was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York, and was originally known as Woodland Mills. The village was incorporated in 1867, and the name was changed to Woodland.

Geography

Woodland is located at 41°45'N 85°45'W (41.75, -85.75). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Woodland is a small village with a population of just over 1,000 people. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few other small shops. The village also has a post office, a library, and a fire station. The village is also home to a few small manufacturing companies, including a furniture manufacturer and a plastics manufacturer.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,072 people, 441 households, and 294 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,521.2 people per square mile (586.2/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 663.2 per square mile (256.2/km2).
