West Monroe Summary

History

West Monroe is a small village located in Monroe County, Michigan. It is situated on the banks of the River Raisin, and is part of the Monroe Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was first settled in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “West Monroe”, but was later changed to “West Monroe” in 1845.
The village was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it began to develop into an industrial center. The first industry to be established in West Monroe was a sawmill, which was built in 1867. This sawmill was followed by a number of other industries, including a flour mill, a brickyard, a tannery, and a furniture factory.
