Sheridan, Michigan is a small village located in Montcalm County in the state of Michigan. It is situated on the banks of the Flat River, approximately 20 miles northeast of Grand Rapids. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the larger Sheridan Township.

History

The area that is now Sheridan was first settled in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “Sheridanville” and was named after General Philip Sheridan, a Civil War hero. The village was incorporated in 1871 and was the first village in Montcalm County to be incorporated.
The village was a thriving agricultural community in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The village was home to several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a woolen mill. The village also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office.

Geography

Sheridan is located in the central part of Montcalm County, approximately 20 miles northeast of Grand Rapids. The village is situated on the banks of the Flat River, which flows through the village. The village is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.
