Metamora Summary

Metamora is a small village located in Lapeer County, Michigan. It is situated on the banks of the Flint River, approximately 30 miles north of Detroit. The village has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Metamora was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the Greek word for “change”, as the settlers were looking for a new start in life. The village was incorporated in 1867.
In the late 19th century, Metamora was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a woolen mill. The village also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office.
In the early 20th century, Metamora began to experience a decline in population. This was due to the decline of the agricultural industry and the rise of industrialization in nearby cities. By the 1950s, the village had become a quiet, rural community.

Geography

Metamora is located in the southeastern corner of Lapeer County. The village is situated on the banks of the Flint River, which flows through the village. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the surrounding area. The village is surrounded by farmland and woodlands.
