Lyons Summary

Lyons is a small village located in Ionia County, Michigan. It is situated on the Grand River, approximately 25 miles east of Grand Rapids. The village has a population of 1,072 as of the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Lyons was first settled in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “Lyonsville” and was named after the town of Lyons, New York. The village was incorporated in 1871.
In the late 19th century, Lyons was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a woolen mill. The village also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office.
In the early 20th century, Lyons began to experience a decline in population as many of its residents moved away to larger cities. The village was also affected by the Great Depression, which caused many businesses to close.

Geography

Lyons is located in Ionia County, Michigan. It is situated on the Grand River, approximately 25 miles east of Grand Rapids. The village has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.
The village is located in a rural area and is surrounded by farmland. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills. The climate is humid continental, with cold winters and warm summers.
