Kingston Summary

Kingston is a small village located in the state of Michigan, United States. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, in the county of Mason. The village is located on the shores of Lake Michigan, and is part of the larger Mason County area.

History

The area that is now Kingston was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of French-Canadian fur traders. The village was originally known as “L’Anse aux Pins”, which translates to “Pine Point”. The village was officially incorporated in 1867, and was named after Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
In the late 1800s, Kingston was a thriving lumber town. The village was home to several sawmills, and the lumber industry was the main source of employment for the residents. The lumber industry eventually declined, and the village began to focus on other industries, such as fishing and tourism.

Geography

Kingston is located in the northwest corner of Michigan, in the county of Mason. The village is situated on the shores of Lake Michigan, and is part of the larger Mason County area. The village is surrounded by forests and lakes, and is home to several parks and nature preserves.
The village is located approximately 30 miles from the city of Grand Rapids, and is accessible by car or bus. The nearest airport is located in Grand Rapids, and is approximately 45 minutes away.
