Gobles Summary

Gobles is a small village located in Van Buren County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kalamazoo-Portage Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Gobles was founded in 1837 by John Goble, a settler from New York. The village was originally known as Goble's Corners, and was later shortened to Gobles. The village was incorporated in 1891.

Geography

Gobles is located at 42°19'25" North, 85°45'45" West (42.323750, -85.762501). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Economy

Gobles is a small village with a limited economy. The main industries in the area are agriculture and tourism. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few other small shops.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 298 families residing in the village. The population density was 902.2 people per square mile (348.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 388.3 per square mile (149.7/km2).
