Fowlerville Summary

Fowlerville is a village located in Livingston County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,886 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–East Lansing Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Fowlerville was first settled in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as "Fowler's Station" after the first settler, William Fowler. The village was platted in 1845 and incorporated as a village in 1871.

Geography

Fowlerville is located at 42°41'45" North, 84°14'45" West (42.695833, -84.245833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

Economy

Fowlerville is home to several businesses, including a variety of retail stores, restaurants, and service providers. The village is also home to several manufacturing companies, including Fowlerville Manufacturing, a manufacturer of automotive parts, and Fowlerville Plastics, a manufacturer of plastic products.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,288.2 people per square mile (496.7/km2). There were 1,153 housing units at an average density of 522.2 per square mile (201.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.45% White, 0.53% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.41% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% were non-families. 22.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $45,938, and the median income for a family was $51,964. Males had a median income of $40,000 versus $25,938 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,945.
