Clio Summary

Clio, Michigan is a small city located in Genesee County, Michigan. It is situated on the Flint River, about 10 miles north of Flint. The city has a population of 8,890 as of the 2010 census.

History

Clio was first settled in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The town was originally called Clio Station, and was named after the Greek muse of history, Clio. The town was incorporated in 1871.
In the late 19th century, Clio was a major center for the lumber industry. The town was home to several sawmills and lumber yards. The lumber industry declined in the early 20th century, and the town shifted its focus to agriculture.

Geography

Clio is located at 43°02'N 83°45'W (43.03, -83.75). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.3 km2), all land.

Economy

Clio's economy is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several farms, and the surrounding area is known for its production of corn, soybeans, and wheat.
The city is also home to several manufacturing companies, including Clio Tool and Die, Clio Automotive, and Clio Plastics.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 8,890 people, 3,541 households, and 2,521 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,788.3 people per square mile (1,077.2/km2). There were 3,845 housing units at an average density of 1,196.2 per square mile (461.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.2% White, 1.7% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
There were 3,541 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
