History
Centreville was founded in 1831 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as Centreville because of its location at the center of St. Joseph County. The first post office was established in 1837 and the village was incorporated in 1867.
The village was a major stop on the Michigan Central Railroad, which ran through the village from 1871 to 1971. The railroad was a major factor in the growth of the village, as it allowed for the transportation of goods and people to and from the village.
Geography
Centreville is located at 41°51'25"N 85°25'45"W (41.856944, -85.429167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

The economy of Centreville is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a bank. The village also has a small industrial park, which is home to several small manufacturing companies.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,717 people, 690 households, and 463 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,427.5 people per square mile (550.3/km2). There were 745 housing units at an average density of 618.3 per square mile (238.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.5% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $22,500 for females.
