Camden, Michigan is a small village located in Hillsdale County in the south-central region of the state. The village is situated on the banks of the St. Joseph River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. History

The area that is now Camden was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “New York Settlement”, and was later renamed “Camden” after the town of Camden, New York. The village was officially incorporated in 1867.
In the late 19th century, Camden was a thriving agricultural community, with a variety of crops being grown in the area. The village was also home to several mills, including a sawmill, a gristmill, and a woolen mill.
In the early 20th century, Camden began to experience a decline in population as many of its residents moved away in search of better economic opportunities. The village was also affected by the Great Depression, and many of its businesses closed.

Geography

Camden is located in Hillsdale County, in the south-central region of Michigan. The village is situated on the banks of the St. Joseph River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village is located approximately 25 miles south of the city of Jackson, and is about 90 miles west of Detroit.
