History
The area that is now Addison was first settled in 1826 by a man named John Addison. He built a log cabin and cleared the land for farming. The village was platted in 1837 and incorporated in 1867.

The racial makeup of the village was 95.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
There were 717 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.14.
