Redwater Summary

Redwater, Texas is a small town located in Bowie County, Texas. It is situated about 10 miles east of the city of Texarkana and is part of the Texarkana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1873 and has a population of approximately 1,000 people.

History

Redwater, Texas was founded in 1873 by a group of settlers from Arkansas. The town was named after the nearby Redwater River, which was named for its reddish-brown color. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for the timber industry. The town was also home to a number of sawmills and lumberyards.
In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and prosper. The population increased from just over 200 in 1900 to over 1,000 by the mid-1920s. During this time, the town was home to a number of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a movie theater, and a number of stores.
In the late 1940s, the town began to decline. The timber industry had moved away and the population had decreased to just over 500 by the mid-1950s. The town continued to decline until the late 1970s when it began to experience a resurgence. The population has since increased to over 1,000 and the town has seen a number of new businesses open.
