Plantersville Summary

Plantersville is a small town located in Grimes County, Texas, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bryan-College Station metropolitan area.

History

Plantersville was founded in 1846 by a group of settlers from Alabama. The town was named after the planters who settled in the area. The first post office was established in 1848. The town was incorporated in 1873.

Geography

Plantersville is located at 30°37'25" North, 96°14'17" West (30.623750, -96.237917). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Plantersville is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms and ranches, as well as a few small businesses. The town is also home to a few restaurants and stores.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 197 households, and 149 families residing in the town. The population density was 790.2 people per square mile (305.3/km2). There were 213 housing units at an average density of 309.2 per square mile (119.2/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 81.3% White, 15.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.3% of the population.
