Oakwood Summary
Oakwood is a small town located in Leon County, Texas, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Centerville Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Oakwood was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Centerville. The town was named after the abundance of oak trees in the area. The first post office was established in 1882.
In the early 1900s, Oakwood was a thriving community with a population of over 500 people. The town had a cotton gin, a blacksmith shop, a general store, a hotel, a bank, and several churches.
