Macdona Summary
Macdona is a small unincorporated community located in Bexar County, Texas, United States. It is situated along the Medina River, approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown San Antonio. The population of Macdona was estimated to be around 500 in 2020.
History
The area that is now Macdona was originally inhabited by the Coahuiltecan Indians. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1700s. The settlement was originally known as “Macdona” after the Macdonald family, who were among the first settlers. The town was officially established in 1876 and was named after the Macdonald family.
In the early 1900s, Macdona was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton gins, a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a post office. The town also had a school, which was established in 1910.
