Ladonia Summary

Ladonia is a small town located in Fannin County, Texas, United States. It is situated about 75 miles northeast of Dallas and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The population of Ladonia was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Ladonia was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Tennessee. The town was named after the wife of one of the settlers, Ladonia Smith. The town was originally located in the Red River Valley, but was moved to its current location in 1845.
The town was an important stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route, which ran from St. Louis to San Francisco. The route was established in 1858 and ran through Ladonia until 1861, when the Civil War caused it to be discontinued.
