Edgewood is a small town located in Van Zandt County, Texas, United States. It is situated about 25 miles east of Tyler and about 75 miles east of Dallas. The population of Edgewood was 1,717 at the 2010 census.

History

Edgewood was founded in 1873 by a group of settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The town was named after the nearby Edgewood Plantation, which was owned by the family of one of the settlers. The town was incorporated in 1876 and was the first incorporated town in Van Zandt County.
In the early 1900s, Edgewood was a thriving agricultural community. Cotton was the main crop, and the town had several cotton gins and a cottonseed oil mill. The town also had a sawmill, a gristmill, and a blacksmith shop.
In the 1920s, Edgewood began to experience a decline in population as people moved away to larger cities. The Great Depression of the 1930s further reduced the population, and by 1940 the town had only about 500 people.
In the 1950s, Edgewood began to experience a resurgence in population as people moved back to the area. The town was revitalized by the construction of a new school and the opening of a new bank.

Edgewood is located at 32°47'25" North, 95°45'45" West (32.790278, -95.762500). The town is situated on the western edge of Van Zandt County, about 25 miles east of Tyler and about 75 miles east of Dallas.
The town is located in the East Texas Piney Woods region, and the terrain is mostly flat with some rolling hills. The area is heavily forested with pine and hardwood trees.
