De Leon Summary

De Leon, Texas is a small town located in Comanche County, Texas. It is situated about 80 miles west of Fort Worth and about 100 miles east of Abilene. The population of De Leon was 2,412 in the 2010 census.

History

De Leon was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from Leon County, Texas. The town was named after the county in which it was founded. The first post office was established in 1882 and the town was incorporated in 1885.
The town was originally a farming community, but in the early 1900s, the discovery of oil in the area led to an economic boom. The town quickly grew and by the 1920s, it had become a major oil-producing center.
