Crowley Summary
Crowley is a city located in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 12,838 at the 2010 census. Crowley is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area.
History
Crowley was founded in 1887 by settlers from Crowley, Louisiana. The town was named after the Louisiana town, which was named after Pat Crowley, an early settler. The first post office was established in 1887.

Economy
Crowley's economy is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several large manufacturing plants, including a General Motors plant and a Tyson Foods plant.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 11,845 people, 4,072 households, and 3,072 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,444.2 people per square mile (558.7/km2). There were 4,310 housing units at an average density of 526.3 per square mile (203.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 75.2% White, 11.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 9.7% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 18.2% of the population.
There were 4,072 households, out of which 41.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.2% were non-families. 20.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.90 and the average family size was 3.36.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 30.7% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,945, and the median income for a family was $46,919. Males had a median income of $32,813 versus $25,945 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,845. About 8.2% of families and 10.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
