Campbell Summary

Campbell, Texas is a small town located in Hunt County, Texas, United States. It is situated about 10 miles east of Greenville, the county seat. The population of Campbell was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Campbell was founded in 1872 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was named after a local family, the Campbells. The first post office was established in 1873. The town was incorporated in 1876.
In the early 1900s, Campbell was a thriving agricultural community. Cotton was the main crop, and the town had several cotton gins and a cottonseed oil mill. The town also had a bank, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, and several stores.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the cotton industry declined. The Great Depression further weakened the town's economy. In the 1940s, the town began to revive as the oil industry began to boom in the area. The town was home to several oil wells and a refinery.

Geography

Campbell is located at 33°14'25" North, 96°14'25" West (33.240278, -96.240278). The town is situated on the banks of the Sabine River.
