Bartlett, Texas is a small town located in Bell County, Texas, United States. It is situated about 25 miles north of Austin and is part of the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography

Bartlett is located at (30.9079, -97.5462). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

History

Bartlett was founded in 1873 and was named after its first postmaster, William Bartlett. The town was originally a stop on the Houston and Texas Central Railway. The town was incorporated in 1891 and was the county seat of Bell County until the county seat was moved to Belton in 1892.
In the early 1900s, Bartlett was a thriving agricultural community. Cotton, corn, and hay were the main crops grown in the area. The town also had a number of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a drug store, and a blacksmith shop.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the railroad stopped running through the area and the population began to move away. The town was almost abandoned by the 1940s, but in the 1950s, the town began to experience a resurgence as new businesses moved in and the population began to grow again.

The racial makeup of the town was 81.2% White, 11.2% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 5.2% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.7% of the population.
There were 645 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
