History
Barry was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from Tennessee. The town was named after a local rancher, William Barry, who owned a large amount of land in the area. The town was incorporated in 1884 and soon became a thriving agricultural center. Cotton, corn, and other crops were grown in the area, and the town was home to several businesses, including a cotton gin, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
In the early 1900s, the town began to decline as the railroad bypassed it. The population dropped to just over 500 by the 1950s. However, the town began to experience a resurgence in the late 20th century, as new businesses and industries moved into the area.
