Geography

Seneca is located at 34°41'25" North, 82°59'45" West (34.690278, -82.995833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), of which 8.1 square miles (21.0 km2) is land and 0.1 square mile (0.2 km2) is water.

Economy

Seneca is home to several major employers, including Duke Energy, Oconee Nuclear Station, and Clemson University. The city is also home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 8,102 people, 3,093 households, and 2,072 families residing in the city. The population density was 997.2 people per square mile (385.3/km2). There were 3,521 housing units at an average density of 433.3 per square mile (167.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 15.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.2% of the population.
There were 3,093 households, out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.3% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.94.
