Prosperity Summary

Prosperity is a small town located in Newberry County, South Carolina. It is situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, approximately 25 miles northwest of Columbia, the state capital. The town was founded in 1820 and incorporated in 1891. As of the 2010 census, the population of Prosperity was 1,182.

Geography

Prosperity is located at 34°17'25"N 81°37'17"W (34.290278, -81.621389). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Prosperity is a small rural town with a limited economy. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, a bank, and a few restaurants. The town also has a few manufacturing plants, including a textile mill and a furniture factory.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,182 people, 463 households, and 315 families residing in the town. The population density was 983.3 people per square mile (380.2/km2). There were 517 housing units at an average density of 429.2 per square mile (165.7/km2).
