Pelzer Summary

Pelzer is a small town located in Anderson County, South Carolina. It is situated on the banks of the Saluda River, approximately 20 miles from Greenville. The town was founded in 1837 and named after the Pelzer family, who were early settlers in the area. The population of Pelzer was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Pelzer is located at 34°41'25" North, 82°25'45" West (34.690278, -82.429167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Pelzer is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The town is home to several small businesses, including a feed mill, a lumber mill, and a furniture factory. The town also has a few restaurants and retail stores.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (595.2/km2).
