Pelion Summary

Pelion, South Carolina is a small town located in Lexington County, South Carolina. It is situated approximately 20 miles northwest of Columbia, the state capital. The town was founded in 1891 and is named after the mountain of the same name in Greece. The population of Pelion was 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

Geography

Pelion is located at 33°51'25"N 81°17'45"W (33.856944, -81.295833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
The town is located in the Midlands region of South Carolina, which is characterized by rolling hills and flat plains. The town is situated on the banks of the Saluda River, which is a tributary of the Congaree River.

The economy of Pelion is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including a large dairy farm. The town also has a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
