History
Iva was founded in 1872 by the Reverend William Iva, a Methodist minister. The town was named after him and was incorporated in 1874. Iva was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for the textile industry. The town was home to several cotton mills, including the Iva Manufacturing Company, which was established in 1881. The town also had a railroad station, which was built in 1882.

Iva is located at 34°30'25" North, 82°37'17" West (34.506944, -82.621389). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.

Iva's economy is largely based on the textile industry. The town is home to several cotton mills, including the Iva Manufacturing Company, which was established in 1881. The town also has a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the town. The population density was 837.5 people per square mile (323.7/km2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 382.7 per square mile (147.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 79.2% White, 16.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.2% were married couples living together, 16.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 24.3% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $30,938, and the median income for a family was $37,500. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females.
