Seligman Summary

Seligman is a small town located in the southwestern corner of Missouri, in the Ozark Mountains. It is situated in the county of Barry, and is part of the Joplin, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1882 and has a population of approximately 1,000 people.

History

Seligman was founded in 1882 by a group of German immigrants who had settled in the area. The town was named after one of the settlers, Jacob Seligman, who had come to the area from Germany in 1881. The town was originally a farming community, and the settlers grew a variety of crops, including corn, wheat, and oats.
In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and develop. The first school was built in 1906, and the first bank opened in 1908. The town also had a post office, a general store, and a blacksmith shop.
