Osceola is a city located in St. Clair County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of St. Clair County.

History

Osceola was founded in 1841 and named after the Seminole leader Osceola. The city was incorporated in 1867. The first post office was established in 1845.
Osceola was the site of a major Civil War battle in 1861. The Battle of Osceola was fought between Union and Confederate forces on October 22, 1861. The Union forces were victorious and the Confederate forces retreated.

Geography

Osceola is located at 37°25'25" North, 93°59'45" West (37.423750, -93.995833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.

The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.05.
